,Build A Website

A lot of people today are looking to design their own website but aren’t sure how to go about it. Like anything in life, you need to be educated on the right way to build a page in order to make it stand out.

The following article contains a number of great tips for the beginning web designer.

If you are not feeling confident in any area at all when you’re designing a website then go ahead and ask for help from someone. You can either find help from a friend or from strangers on places like forums on the web. Just be sure you don’t tackle anything without knowing what you’re doing first.

A great tip for every web designer out there is to research their target audience. Understanding what type of people will be using the site is an excellent way to decide how to build it. Make sure it is a site that the target audience will be comfortable using.

To help you design a good site, you need to make it so it is simple to navigate. Navigation encompasses everything and is the backbone of your site. So construct a site that flows easily from one area to another, otherwise your site will be very confusing and people will not visit it.

Allowing guest content on your site is a good idea, but never, ever let someone else get into your server to post it! You need to receive the content via email. A lot of amateur site designers actually allow people to access their host’s server. Even if this doesn’t lead to theft, it’s still a really bad idea.

Make sure your business logo is well-designed and prominently on every page of your site. Your logo is a key component of your brand, and it should be one of the first things people see when they go to your website. If you can’t come up with a good idea for a logo, there are design firms that will make you one at relatively low cost.

Include a link to the homepage on every page of your site. One of the best ways to do this is to make a graphic title for your page that can be included on all pages. Web users are used to clicking on a graphic to return home so there won’t be a learning curve to navigating your site.

Avoid creating user interface (UI) controls that mislead your visitors. These controls include elements, widgets and more that create an interactive experience, such as a link, drop-down list or button. You do not want to make visitors think that clicking on an underlined word or phrase for example, will lead to a new page if it is not actually linked to something else. When your visitors have expectations of something working a certain way and it does not, they are more likely to assume there is something wrong with your site and leave.

As you read in the beginning of this article, all you really need to build a website is a little bit of information. If you know a few simple tricks then there is no reason why you cannot build a nice looking site in no time.

Take the tips from this article to help you get started designing your very first site.

  1. I would recommend Blogspot.com in all reality. a blog but you have people email you there questions and then you can post them with your answer and their anonymous name. Then other people can comment, then again you can always disable the comments. It is totally free, I have my own free account. I "built" it myself and only put the information I wanted people to know about on it.

The only other free options are freewebs and bravenet. I am not sure what your concern with safety is…are you worried about identities being revealed? Or someone hacking in to your account?

  2. Not really, at least not without specific information about the website. showing intellectual prowess in learning the specific languages for creating the website, as opposed to using an application. While commendable, though, only exhibiting a skill. There is nothing novel or inherently clever in this achievement. The website might be a sign of ingenuity if it serves a novel or clever purpose, not just something different or intelligently designed, but something that typically be associated with the purpose of a website.

The guys behind Google, for example, used already existing web design language and computer programming to create something with true ingenuity. They invent the tools, but they developed a system of applying algorithms to compiled web pages that allowed them to come up with a search function that could return much more meaningful results than existed before, and that could be tweaked to return more specific results for individual web users based on their previous searches.

Ingenuity is more than building a better mousetrap. Its akin to creating a mousetrap that goes beyond the standard design and function, not only trapping the mouse but applying in inventive and unforeseen ways what to do with a dead rodent.

  3. If you find one where not all you mentioned and "Here do my homework for me" let me know JR, love to find one myself.

  4. The "free" images may still be copyrighted, but you have a license to use them for limited uses that may not include republication on your own blog.

Copyright infringement does not require any proof that you are "trying to sell anything", only that you have violated the copyright exclusive rights to make copies, publish, distribute, perform publicly, and make derivative works of their copyrighted works. You will either need a license (Y!A has a license to publish what I am typing right now) or be able to prove one or more statutory exemptions as your defense when (if) you are sued by any copyright owner.

If you qualify as an "internet service provider", publishing works produced by others, you could benefit from familiarity with the "Safe Harbor" provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), including the requirement to have a simple way for copyright owners to notify you of their complaints and a procedure for quick removal of the allegedly infringing works.

  5. say that would be fine… usually, as long as not making money or saying bad things about the company, they wont mind. Even if they did, usually, they would precede any action with a request that you take down their images.

  6. This was someone elses answer to a different question but it will probably help

called or page icons. The webmaster chooses the picture (s)he wants to use as the symbol, and references it using a <link> tag.

For example, if you look at the source code for this page, see:

    <link icon"

The file "answers_favicon.ico" is the little green speech bubble with the white star in it. ^_^

  7. Do a google search for Kevin Macleod (I think thats how you speel it).
He does royalty free stuff for download, and some of it is quite good.

  8. Hi, Keith

The are compatible but that power supply is dreadful. The worst thing you can do is to out' on the power supply when building a gaming pc. The wattage is fine (550w), but cheap-o power supplies do not have enough Amps to power the graphics card. When this happens, you get bad game performance, crashing or even power supply failure.

Go for this one, it has a $15 rebate at newegg at the moment.

Another slight issue is that selected a good hard drive, but ideally you need the SATA version rather than IDE. SATA is faster, and the cable is smaller and easier to work with. Also that means that you get better airflow inside your pc case.

You may be thinking is the Sata version cheaper than Well, its because IDE is the old type of connection and is less readily available which bumps up the manufacturing costs.

Not a biggy you would be better of going for this RAM. Its a lot cheaper and will not affect performance one tiny bit:

With all of these changes that will be one beast of a pc :)

One last thing, do remember to buy an operating system disc if you have one already. The best one is 7 Home Premium 64 bit The system builders version is only $99.99 at newegg.com

    Happy building ;)

  9. Your disclaimer saying that you intend to infringe…. …. but then you go ahead and do it anyway
Its very polite but I think it changes anything

    Personally I worry
Though you are probably in breach of copyright, the chances of a problem are vanishingly small the chances of a problem that be fixed are even smaller. Your approach and intentions seem totally reasonable and no reputable company would want to an of you. It would cause them far more harm than good

All the posturing about imprisoning people or fining people is BS and would be politically impossible to enforce for minor infringements

Although I must caution that some companies' can be outrageous in terms of demanding money if they detect copyright material on your site. Its all bluff – either ignore them (best option) or ask them to prove their case after which you will give it the consideration it deserves (none)

  10. well you can try "Free-Loops.com"…which can give you some samples to use for a Youtube vid. some fly beats on that site…and it 100% royalty free to use them. LOL

as far as full length compositions…thats more than likely not free.

  11. Build it on your own computer. need a hosting site to see it work.

  12. Nice rig…BUT…why an IDE hard drive an DVD???..that board is more than capable of SATA which would be at least twice as fast as IDE. OCZ is not on the top of the list for memory G. Skills "ripjaws" are. cheap out with a $15 no name PSU, Get a Corsair 650W or better. The 955 is excellent but for the few bucks more get the 965. The Asus is an excellent card but the MSI Cyclone has a better rating, more ram, and the same money! a full size ATX mother board and the case is a MicroATX so the board wont fit! look for a case "mid-tower".

  13. A "mirrored" web site is a site where there are one or more separate computers at different serving up the same content. You usually do this if the main site is likely to go down due to shaky power, internet connection, or security. Or if you have large files available for downloading.

not so much discouraged for your home page, as not necessary. The world is not gonna collapse if people get to your dog pictures just this instant.

Also most serving site provides have excellent reliability these days, so your mirrors get used very often.

  14. The dummies series is written in the most easily read style. Considering that you are even asking such a question at all, I think it would be the best book

  15. They do accept apps for those with BKs not sure if there are time requirements). Try the forums. There are tons of knowledgable people who can help you. have to register to get access to all of the forums.

Be sure to explain fully in the application. Be as detailed as possible in the description of your finances (monthly income and expenses). This will help your loan get funded.

  16. Cheating on our taxes has become the patriotic thing to do. It is every duty to cheat the government out of every dime we can. our money, not theirs.

  17. Make a counter offer.

    Think about this idea:
You tell her to pay you first if she approves the website. Then you add that if the business is good, you will maintain the website to keep it flourishing at a rate of pay to you that is mutually agreed to.

    This way you both benefit.

How you gather info on her business is up to you but I would put in a counter for hits. Based on a 4% return rate (this is called the Code for cold-calling results, proven to be quite dependable).

i.e., If she gets 200 hits, she should get 8 results. If you base your on, say, 25%, and her profit per hit is half of the selling price for her commodity, that is, say, she sells something for $20.00, her profit is $10.00, you get 25%, so you get $2.50 per sale. Total monthly to you based on this Code $2.50 x 8 $20.00.

If she gets a 1000 hits, you figger it out :-)

If she declines, you just lost some time, but you have a ready argument for your Kijiji queries.

    Good luck.

  18. If you want the sites to look good, then you need to learn to use photoshop to create the textures and backgrounds that your site would use. great for making a mockup of the site, and then using css to make the actual pages.
I have a terrible eye for design, so I normaly find a designer and have them build the design for me first.
As fo rusing dreamweaver to create it….
assuming your talking about using the "design" view of dreamweaver, and technically you can. However, it always give clean code, and it hell to work with once you actually learn the languages.

My suggestion for building your site: Use notepad++ as your editor, and use code igniter as the php framework to make things easier.
